ROBERT J. “BOB” AUSTIN, SR., 84, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 in Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasonville, IN.
He was born May 20, 1928 in Terre Haute, IN to Albert Herschel & Susie Elizabeth (Slaughter) Austin.
Bob married Joan Margaret (Booker) Austin on May 26, 1949 and she passed away on April 8, 2004.
Survivors include his daughter & son-in-law, Janie Austin Landry & Dennis of Jasonville, IN; son & daughter-in-law, Robert J. Austin, Jr. & Karen of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Kris & Brenda Landry, Greg & Amy Landry, Drew Landry, Andrea & T.J. Nooney; great-grandchildren, Rylee Austin Landry, Lauren Landry, Ashlyn Landry, Ava Landry, Malynn Nooney, Austin Nooney; sisters, Betty Lee of Terre Haute, IN, Helen Fleschner of Terre Haute, IN, Patty McCormick of Terre Haute, IN, Shirley Stultz of Terre Haute, IN, Darlene Bennett of Terre Haute, IN, Linda Secrest of Terre Haute, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Dorothy Austin, Kenneth Austin, Martha Mae Austin, Mary Rogers, Catherine Compton, Marlene Shafer, Larry Austin.
Bob was a General Car Foreman with the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Lawton Street Christian Church and a 50+ year member of the Jasonville Masonic Lodge #530 F & A.M.
Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating.
Interment was at Peavey Cemetery in Howesville, IN.
