BILLY WAYNE GILBERT, 75, of Lewis, IN passed away at 7:25 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2026 in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.
He was born September 22, 1950 in Sullivan, IN to Leslie W. “Pete” Gilbert and Mary H. (Fisher) Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, of Lewis, IN who he married on December 17, 2006; step-children, Mindy Roberts (Ricky) of Martinsville, IL, Stacey Guthrie (Trey) of Clinton, IN; grandchildren, Dalton (MJ), Arlo, Jayde, Chase; siblings, Jerry “Babe” Gilbert of Lewis, IN, Leslie Ray Gilbert (Denise) of Sullivan, IN, Carl Gilbert of Lewis, IN; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; numerous friends and neighbors and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Billy graduated high school and completed 1 year of computer trade school. Billy worked for the railroad, and for INDOT State Highway maintenance dept. for 38 ½ years. He also drove truck, hauling grain for farmers, his handle was Road Boss. Billy partnered with Rusty Taylor in G-N-R Salvage. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and socializing. In his later years he attended Mt. Moriah Apolostolic Church in Linton, IN with Rev. Kevin & Teresa S. Gilbert.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Funeral Home. Services are immediately following at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Gilbert officiating.
Interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery in Martinsville, IL. Immediately following services.
