We don’t know who came to collect him, but our imagination has all of them lined up to welcome him as he made his arrival into the great place we can only imagine. He now sees, he knows.. no more unknowns.. he knows. But so many smiles, so many hugs.. not one tear. No pain, no sense of loss.. because loss is only felt by us here.. left behind.

Don had a variety of employment skills from farming to driving semi. He retired from Thatcher Trucking in 1997. He had so much knowledge stored up in his brain. He didn’t just offer it, you had to ask for it. He didn’t offer an opinion, you had to ask for it. You could ask him anything about an engine or vehicle and he could tell you how to fix it. Don also enjoyed spending time fishing and going to truck pulls. He also liked woodworking. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Was he perfect? No one is.. but he was perfect for us. We had laughter and tears.. like every family. Times got tight, but he always made sure we were taken care of. Going without a lot of things himself, so his family didn’t have to. When I tell people who my dad is, they always respond with “I remember him, good man”

He was loved. He IS loved. Life won’t be the same, we won’t move on, we will just learn how to live without him. We will remember him, laugh at memories.. cry at memories, I hope we are not afraid to talk about him, or our memories, in fear of hurting people by reminding them of him. We need to remember him, we need to keep his memories alive. Let his legacy continue on through us and our children.. their children.. etc.
