EARL LAWRENCE YATES, 83, of Farmersburg, IN passed away at 7:05 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 22, 1943 in Lewis, IN to James Yates and Mamie Frances (Sparks) Yates.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Heide M. Yates of Farmersburg, IN who he married on July 15, 1967; children, Norbert G. Yates (Megan) of Jeffersonville, IN, Rebecca N. Shattuck (Jesse) of Hymera, IN; grandchildren, Hunter A. Shattuck, Ann Marie Shattuck, Shelby Rose Shattuck, Liberty Grace Yates; brother, Charles Lee Yates (Ruth A.) of Jasonville, IN; many nieces and nephews. most special friends, Jess Tidd (Jackie) of Lewis, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Mary Helen Clark, Anna Louise Dewers, Albert Simeon Yates, Eva Ruth Halstead, James Robert Yates, Juanita M. Swalls, Inez Ethel Carrico, Howard Lowell Yates, Rosalee E. Nuckolls, Harry E. Yates, Larry Joe Yates.
Earl graduated from Black Hawke High School. He worked as a truck driver, enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Earl was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of Shiloh Assembly of God Church. A special thanks to Shiloh Assembly of God Church Family for all their love and prayers. A heart felt thanks to the caring and helpful folks at Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Earl loved his family and enjoyed all the time spent with them.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, October 14, 2026 and 9 AM until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Services are 1 PM Thursday, October 15, 2026 with Pastor Dick Smith officiating.
Interment will be at Stephens Cemetery in Lewis, IN with Military Graveside Rites.
