Elsie attended several schools; elementary school in Terre Haute, IN, Midland School in Midland, IN, Jasonville Schools and finally moving from Jasonville to rural West Terre Haute and graduating with the class of 1951 from Fayette High School in New Goshen, IN. Elsie enjoyed whatever her husband or friends enjoyed from fishing to watching Nascar races or watching grandchildren at ballgames. If you knew Elsie at all, you probably have a piece of her crochet work from doilies to Christmas stockings to afghans, to name a few. She taught herself to crochet at an early age and continued till her hands would not let her anymore. This really made her sad when she could not use her fingers to crochet, work jigsaw puzzles, and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, mushroom hunting, and canning produce from the family garden. She enjoyed her front porch and porch swing many evenings when weather permitted. Elsie was an active member of the Jasonville United Methodist Church, helping with Bible School, and working the Back Door Food Pantry. She enjoyed meeting and talking with the people that came through. But most importantly she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit.
We would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and mom’s three special caregivers, Dorothy Stobough, Delayni Butt and Tammy Schill. Without hospice and these caring individuals we could not have kept mom in her home. We will be eternally grateful to them.
