SAMUEL MOSES FARRIS, 90, of Jasonville, Indiana left this world at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasonville, IN. He was born June 16, 1920 in Jasonville, IN to Samuel Harrison Farris and Hannah (Thomas) Farris. He married Helen Mae (Walters) Farris on June 9, 1951 and she passed away on September 5, 1991.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Janet & Dale Johnson of Clinton, IN; grandchildren,Tawnia (Farris) Hemmen, Clint Farris, Hannah (Johnson) Stone, Chelsea Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jess Hemmen, Kassondra Hemmen, Devin Farris, Arabella Farris, Hayven Farris. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Larry; brother, Herbie Thomas; half-brothers, Edward G. Farris and Perry Farris; half-sister, Kathyrn Farris.

He was a coal miner and a healthcare administrator where he built, owned, and operated Farris Lombardy Nursing Home of South Bend, Indiana. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the military for five years. Sam like fishing, camping, spending time with family and grandchildren, attending church, helping kids and others. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, South Bend Masonic Lodge #294 F&AM, Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Past Patron of Rose Croix, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Shriners Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Kiwanis, Moose Lodge of South Bend, YMCA, and volunteered at the Jasonville Senior Citizen’s Center.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville, IN. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Sunday with Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 with Pastor Sam Bush officiating. Interment was in Peavey Cemetery, Howesville, IN with Military Graveside Rites.
