GERALD E. HARDESTY, 84, of Lewis, Indiana passed away at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 27, 1934 in Rosedale, IN to Oather Lee Hardesty and Elsie Lee (Kennedy) Hardesty.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 64 years, Martha Ruth (McCullough) Hardesty of Lewis who he married on April 11, 1954; children, James Rodney “Jim” Hardesty (Beth) of Coalmont, Jeffrey Keith “Jeff” Hardesty (Lynette) of Frankfort; grandchildren, James Bradley Hardesty (Sarah), Kristen Marie Patterson (Dwain), Leslie Marie Huckstep (Daniel); step-grandson, Eric Smith; great-grandchildren, Natalie Marie Hardesty, Macie Anne Hardesty, James “Parker” Patterson, Hattie Jean Patterson; step-great-grandchildren, Jalen Smith, Carter Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; infant sister; brother, Don L. Hardesty.

Gerald retired from J.I. Case after 22 years of service, Chrysler Corporation after 10 years of service. He had driven a school bus for Shakamak Schools for 23 years, and also worked on the family farm for many years. He was a faithful member of Briley Chapel Community Church. Gerald was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services are 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Sluder officiating.

Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City, IN.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Gerald to Briley Chapel Community Church; 5239 W. ST RD 246; Lewis, IN 47858. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
