HELEN A. (WORTH) GODFREY, 99, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 8:43 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 in Sullivan County Community Hospital Sullivan, IN. She was born April 19, 1911 in Jasonville, IN to Roy Worth and Deda (Coleman) Worth. Helen married John Godfrey February 23, 1931. John passed away on September 26, 1962.
Survivors include daughters & son-in-law, Judith K. & Paris Bandy of New Palestine, IN and Norma L. Hamilton of Jasonville, IN; son, Bob Godfrey of Jasonville, IN; grandchildren, Paris J. & Melissa Bandy, Angela R. & Jeff Thomas, Deborah K. Landis, Harold Ray & Patrice Mowery, Randy Mowery; great-grandchildren, Michael & Belinda Rehmel, Jan & Pat Gilbert, Brittany Rehmel & Timothy Rehmel, Donnie W. & Cora Landis, Annette & John Burney, John & Niki Landis, Melissa Landis, Dustin Mowery & Miranda Mowery, and Anthony Mowery; 15 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great- grandchildren; sister-in law, Una Mae Beadle of Edwardsburg, MI.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ena Mowery; her parents; husband; grandsons, John Rehmel, Tim Rehmel, & Gregory Mowery; sister, Winnie Grissom; brothers, Harry Beadle, Spid Beadle, Theron & Roscoe Beadle; sons-in-law, Harold Mowery, Raymond Rehmel and Jasper Hamilton.
Helen worked at Real Silk, Formfit, Indianapolis Glove, and retired from Crane. She operated Helen’s Varsity House in Jasonville for several years, raised and sold chickens to the local grocers, and still has some wonderful handmade quilts. She was a member of the Jasonville Church of God. Helen was selected as the most outstanding single Senior Citizen in the Church of God in Indiana. She started teaching under Pastor Jack Gambill in 1952. She continued teaching Sunday School, was the young people’s leader as well as teaching the small children until 2002.
Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the Jasonville Church of God.
Funeral Services were 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Jasonville Church of God, with Pastor Jonathon Heard and her former Pastor, Roy Rich officiating.
Interment was at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN.
