JAMES R. YATES, 96, of Pimento, IN passed away at 2 pm Monday, January 6, 2025 in his home.
He was born October 3, 1928 in Oak Town, IN to James M. Yates and Mamie Frances (Sparks) Yates.
James married Mary L. Yates on August 24, 1949, she passed away on January 19, 2013.
Survivors include his children, Donald E. Yates (Lu) of Lewis, IN, Marilyn Sue Lifford of Jasonville, IN, James M. “Jim” Yates (Trudie) of Lewis, IN, Kenneth L. Yates (Rhonda Banner) of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren, Andrea Duncan (Brad), Bobbi Wiscaver (Bill), Chris Yates (Glenda), Donna Nygren (Michael), Jeremy Yates, Billy Yates (Jacelyn Yates), Kenneth Yates Jr. (Diamond); 30 – great-grandchildren; 20 – great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Halstead of Terre Haute, IN, Earl Yates (Heidi) of Farmersburg, IN, Charlie Lee Yates (Ruth Ann) of Jasonville, IN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Eddie McIntyre, 6 – sisters, 4 – brothers.
James liked to play pool, go fishing, 500 Rummy and Euchre. He enjoyed getting out to drive around and look at the farm ground in the spring and fall. He also liked picking greens. James loved his family, all in his own way. He loved teasing people, giving them a hard time.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 pm Friday and at the Funeral Home. Services are immediately following at 8 pm with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating.
