MARY ELIZABETH (COOPRIDER) BARCUS, 92, of Farmersburg, IN is helping tend the Lord’s Flowers after passing away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her home.

She was born January 7, 1929 in Clay County Indiana to Alfred Bryan Cooprider and Edith Viola (Rector) Cooprider.

Mary married William Raymond Barcus on July 2, 1949, he passed away on May 10, 1997.

Survivors include her son, Steven Barcus of Jasonville, IN, daughter, Mary Beth Strain (Randy) of Farmersburg IN; daughter in-law, Rita Barcus of Farmersburg, IN; grandchildren, Eric Barcus (Jennifer), Jodi McClure (Todd), Kortni Martindale, Tammy Martin (Jason), Tim Barcus (Anna), Logan Strain, Whitney Strain, Ashley Strain; great-grandchildren – 14; brother, LeRoy Cooprider; several  nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Michael Lee Barcus; sisters, Norma Snellenberger (Cecil), Wilma Husband (Gene); brother, William Cooprider (Hilde); sister in-law, Sandra Cooprider and nephew, Melvin Stuckey.

Mary graduated from Coalmont High School class of 1947. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Mary was a very hard worker who loved being a farm wife and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, birds, mowing and just being outside. Mary loved to host family gatherings which were never complete without her macaroni and cheese.

Mary was a longtime member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed the Ladies Missionary. She worked at McCord’s Candy Store in West Lafayette and Garland Forbes Corner Store east of Farmersburg, where she met Raymond. She retired from Roots/Macys in Terre Haute.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Family Graveside Services will be at 1 P.M. Wednesday March 24, 2021 at Nyes Chapel Cemetery near Farmersburg with Pastor Terry Dowell officiating. The family requests all those attending to wear masks and practice social distancing, thank you for your cooperation.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mary to Nyes Chapel Cemetery Fund at First Financial Bank, The Masters Class Sullivan, IN or the childrens charity of your choice.
