HELEN VIRGINIA MCKEE, 92, of Jasonville, IN passed away peacefully at 10:20 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 while at her daughter’s home in St. Louis, MO.
Helen was born June 14, 1923 in Jasonville, IN, and was the daughter of Frank Walters and Addie (McWilliams) Walters.
Helen married James Edward McKee on September 2, 1947 and he passed away on June 12, 2011.
Survivors include her daughter, Terrie Kay McKee and husband, Bruce Crowe of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Jeri Cummings of Cloverdale, IN; grandchildren, Lee Franklin McMullin and wife, Janet, Randall McMullin, Robin McMullin Orr, and Chuck Parker; great-grandchildren, Cassie Marie McMullin, Tifarah McMullin Raines, Caleb McMullin, Jody Reuter, and Sheyanne, Matt, Zack, and Emily Parker; nieces and nephews, George Poppy, Linda Poppy Puehler, Melody Poppy McGuire, Cheryl Price Bremer, Doug Kafoure, Shawn Kafoure, Dawn Krampe Parr, Bruce McKee, and their respective spouses and children; many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years; siblings, Mary Belle, Edith and Clarence.
After graduation from Jasonville High School in 1941, Helen married, had two children, and moved to Indianapolis. She had a varied career, including work as a long-distance operator for AT&T; then became a beautician and was co-owner of the Lov-Lee beauty shop in Plainfield. In 1980, Helen retired from U.S. F&G Insurance Company in Indianapolis, where she had worked as an administrative assistant. After retirement, she and Jim returned to live in Jasonville. They traveled extensively, including to her favorite destination, Hawaii.
Helen was a member of Garfield Park Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She inspired others with her fun-loving spirit and quick laughter. It was often said that she “never met a stranger.” Helen entertained her beloved family with many wonderful stories from the past. She will be greatly missed, but leaves countless lasting memories that will bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts.
Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation was 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday July 18, 2015 at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services immediately followed visitation at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Brad West officiating.
Interment was at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN.
