MELVIN HILL, 85, of Greencastle passed peacefully away at 12:30 A.M. Friday, February 7th, 2025 with his daughter and other family at his home in Greencastle, IN.

He was born March 31st, 1939 in Wheatland, IN to Melvin C. Hill and Violet Hill (Waymeir).

Melvin married Jeannean Street on December 22nd, 1957; she passed away on July 19th 2018.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth (Jerry) Butts of Greencastle, IN, Greg (Monica) Hill of Terre Haute, IN,  Teresa Hill (Jim’s widow) of Brownsburg, IN; grandchildren, Zandariah Hill, Talena Hill, Nicholas Kerr (Jesse Vogel), A.J. (Megan) Kerr, Courtney Morgan, Luke (Sarah) Morgan, Tyler Butts, Shawna Perez, Dwayne (Amanda) Hill, Daniel (Jessica) Hill, Sabrina (Chris) Frost, Makayla (Gauge) Reynolds, David Slater Jr., Nathan Abel, Austin Slater; great-grandchildren, Eli Keller, Lexi Hardy (Tanner Scarff), Caleb Jones (Skyler Endsley), Zachary Morgan, Andrew Morgan, Samantha Morgan, Kendall Courtright, Grady Courtright, Benji Perez, Jace Hill, Ellison Hill, Sophia Hill, Collin Hill, Seth Hill, Logan Brenton, Samantha Slater; great-great grandchildren; Temperance Hill, Calvin Kerr, Hudson Scarff, Maggie Scarff, siblings, Vicki Gardner of Huntingburg, Joann (Dave) Phegley of Beech Grove, IN; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannean; son, James “Jim” Hill.

Melvin graduated from Hymera High School in the class of 1957 and was the longest living male of his class. That same year he graduated, he married Jeannean Street and they started a family. He went on to get a certificate for TV repair and opened his own business for TV and Microwave Repair. It grew into a major appliance store. Melvin was a 50-Year Mason of the Vigo Lodge No. 29. He initiated as an Entered Apprentice February 23rd, 1967, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft May 6th, 1967, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason June 17th, 1967.  Melvin was also a member of the Riley Lion’s Club for many years.  He also worked at Vigo County School Corporation as a bus driver for more than 20 years. When he wasn’t at work, he would likely be found watching an IU Basketball game or taking a break to mow the lawn. He held a quiet competition with the neighbor by mowing at least twice a week. He dearly loved being a coach for his children whether it was for basketball or baseball. He carried on his love of sports by being his grandkids’ biggest fan at their games. Melvin was a well-respected and honest man who, while not outgoing, was kind and friend to anyone in need.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 at the Funeral Home. Services are immediately following at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Bryan Langdoc officiating.

Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hymera, IN.
