ORVAL L. NEWSOM, 85, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away peacefully at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 in his residence.

He was born January 17, 1929 in Greene County, IN to Ralph Newsom and Leo (Stump) Newsom.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah (Blanton) Newsom of Jasonville, IN who he married on April 8, 1956; son, Brian Newsom, of Jasonville, IN; grandsons, Dustan Newsom, Justin & Kayla Newsom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucille Barrett, Ilene McHenry; brothers, Ralph Newsom, Donald Newsom.

Orval was a graduate of Switz City High School Class of 1948. He retired from Crane where he worked as a machinist and he was also a farmer. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church, Jasonville Masonic Lodge #530 F&A.M. and Jasonville VFW Post #6225. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 with Pastor Warren Shake officiating.

Interment was at the Worthington Cemetery in Worthington, Indiana with Military Graveside Rites.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions were made in memory of Orval to Great Lakes Caring, 1212 3rd Street; Terre Haute, IN 47802. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
