MICHAEL K. “MIKE” PAYTON, 64, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 7:52 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 in Sullivan County Community Hospital.

He was born November 2, 1950 in Vermillion County, IN to Keith Hubert Payton and Lois Jean (Cooper) Payton-Bohannon.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sandra K. “Sandy” (Soncrant) Payton of Jasonville, IN whom he married on January 16, 1971; daughters & sons-in-law, Tonya & Blake Wasnidge of Jasonville, IN, Deda & Robert Rush of Jasonville, IN, Maggie & Scott Burris of Jasonville, IN; son, Christopher Payton of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren, Ali and Cassie Wasnidge, Austin, Carson and Lily Rush, Logan and Kaycee Burris; brother & sister-in-law, James Keith & Holly Payton of Washington, IN; sister, Karen Furr of Montezuma, IN; mother-in-law, Bettie Soncrant of Jasonville, IN; many nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; special aunt, Evelyn Cooper.

Mike was a Rockville High School Graduate, Class of 1968. He had worked 20 years for Columbia House and currently at the Terre Haute Walmart in the Produce Department. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the Jasonville American Legion Post #172. Mike had coached girls softball and boys baseball teams for many years. He loved to garden and landscape. He enjoyed vacations at Florida to lay out on the beach and play in the ocean.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation was scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. service time Monday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services immediately followed visitation at 2 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating. Military Rites followed services.

Mike always thought of others by regularly donating blood, and as a last gift he donated his cornea’s.

As Mike requested cremation was chosen.
