ORVAN LEO REHMEL, 84, of Coalmont, Indiana passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born March 21, 1926 at his home in Sullivan County, IN to Ora O. Rehmel and Leona F. ( Railsback) Rehmel.  He married Susan Jane (Stevenson) Rehmel October 4, 1946 and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2001.

Survivors include daughters & sons-in-law, Carolyn & Ron Crosley of Rockville, IN, Jane & Bill Stout of Jasonville, IN; sons & daughter-in-law, Gerald L. & Amy Rehmel of Ellettsville, IN, Verlin A. Rehmel of Worthington, IN, Duane L. Rehmel of Jasonville, IN, Kriss L. Rehmel of Jasonville, IN;  12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandson; 2 nephews, Brady Wertz and Kevin Floyd; best friend, Marjorie West. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan Rehmel; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers-in-law.

Orvan was a C.B.I and WWII Army Artiliary veteran. He took basic training with the Horse Calvary, went to India in a ship where he crossed the Equator, then to Burma in an airplane. After the fighting in Burma was over he went to China, Chunking, Kunming, and Shanghi, then China over a year, then back to the U.S.A. in a ship, then home by a train. He was a life member of the Jasonville V.F. W. Post #6225; member of the Coalmont Baptist Church; and retired from J.I. Case as a Production Work Machinist after 19 1/2 years.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville, IN. Visitation was 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 with Pastor Brad West and Pastor Chris McKinney officiating. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, IN with Military Graveside Rites.

Contributions were made in lieu of flowers to the Gideons, envelopes were available at the funeral home.
