November 21, 2024
Today, the community bids farewell to a remarkable man whose life was a harmonious blend of music, entrepreneurship, and unwavering dedication to his family and those around him. Robert Lee Burris, affectionately known as Bob, the beloved patriarch of The Burris Family and pillar of the local business community, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 86.
Born on July 6, 1938, to Mildred Keller Burris and Joseph Burris, Bob grew up with a deep appreciation for faith, family, and community. On July 26, 1959, he married the love of his life, Beverly Hill Burris, beginning a partnership that would span 65 years. Together, they built a life full of love, hard work, and shared dreams, creating a legacy that touched countless lives. Bob and Beverly were blessed with four children who were the center of their world: Kim, Angie, Joey, and Carrie.
Bob and Beverly founded The Burris Family Band with their four children in 1968. They were a talented and close-knit group that brought joy to audiences across the South and Midwest. Known for their harmonies and lively performances, they opened for legendary artists such as Dolly Parton, Ernest Tubb, Conway Twitty, and Loretta Lynn. The family also made regular appearances on The Cowboy Bob Show, earning a special place in the hearts of their fans. Bob cherished these years deeply, as music became not only a shared passion but a family legacy, later inspiring and continuing through their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Beyond music, Bob was a dedicated businessman who spent nearly five decades serving Dugger and the surrounding communities. As the owner of Burris Flower Shop in Dugger, Indiana for 49 years, he brought beauty and comfort to the lives of many through his carefully crafted arrangements. The shop was a place where customers found not just flowers, but kindness, compassion, and a personal touch that only Bob and Beverly could provide.
Bob’s innovative spirit also led him to found Pro-Video Satellite, a pioneering company that introduced the first and fastest selling home satellite systems in the Midwest, which later led to Bob and Beverly being congratulated by Ted Turner. His work connected families to the world in new ways, blending small-town values with cutting-edge technology.
Bob Burris was a man of many talents—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, businessman, and friend. His contributions in this life will not be forgotten, and his legacy lives on in his family, music, memories, and connections he created.
