ROBERT JAMES DALE GARTEN, 72, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 6:27 a.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 in his residence.

He was born July 30, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN to Charles William Garten Sr. and Martha Ann (Braun) Garten.

Survivors include his beautiful wife of 45 years, Candy Cane (Case) Garten of Jasonville, IN who he married on December 20, 1972; children, Catrina Martinez (Abraham) of Indianapolis, Bobby Garten of Terre Haute, Crystal Garten-Hodson (Shawn) of Franklin, Justin Garten (Tiffany) of Florida; grandchildren, Benito, Lara, Alyssa, Abby, Bryson, Brooklyn, Braden, Gunner, Alievia, Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Wagner, Susie Keys.

Robert was a retired cabinet maker. He attended Tech High School, Clark College and Ivy Tech where he learned heating and cooling. He liked wood working, nature, the Military, American Legion, Indy 500 and the Indianapolis Colts. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran where he was in a combat infantry unit assigned to him three years at a time. He served three tours in Vietnam–tunnel rat-one of a few who made it through alive. He loved his family and gave each child and grandchild a nickname.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Cremation was chosen. A Gathering of Friends is scheduled from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. Memorial Services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor David Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN with Military Graveside Rites.
