WILBURN H. “Dutch” ROWE, 96, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011, in his residence.
He was born June 24, 1914, in Clay County, IN to Frank B. Rowe and Nettie (Horton) Rowe.
Survivors include his spouse of 69 years, Mary Juanita (Short) Rowe of Jasonville, IN whom he married on March 14, 1942; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debi Rowe of Worthington, IN; grandchildren, Cortney and Greg Givens of Jasonville, IN, Lucas John Rowe of Terre Haute, IN, Jess Aaron Rowe of Jasonville, IN; and great-grandchildren, Griffith Givens and Moses Givens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Orpha Blanche Crenshaw.
He worked for his dad at their coal mine, was a teacher in Jasonville, principal at Prairieton, and worked at Worthington-Jefferson School Corp. for 18 years as teacher, principal and guidance counselor. Dutch and Juanita did extensive traveling in the US, Europe, Asia, and Alaska. He graduated from Coalmont High School in 1932, received his Elementary Teacher’s Certificate in 1938, B.S. from Indiana Teacher College, Master’s degree in 1956, and his Principal’s License, Counselor’s License and Superintendent’s License. He was a member of I.S.T.A., had been a member and attended the Jasonville First Baptist Church, and more recently was a member and attended Lebanon Baptist Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Services were 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Darr officiating.
Interment will follow at a later date.
Contributions were made in memory of Dutch to The Greene County Foundation. All contributions are being used for academic scholarships. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
