Ruby Esther (Steele) McNabb, 88 of Bloomington was granted her angel wings on March 5, 2010. Her final days were spent at the home of her son, Dan, surrounded by family and friends whom Ruby had touched in some small way throughout her long and very memorable life. She was born May 14, 1921 in Vicksburg, IN to Claude Steele and Chloe (Hawk) Steele. Ruby graduated from Midland High School in 1939. She married her high school sweetheart, Lavaughn Archibald McNabb in 1939, who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and newborn daughter, Teresa.

Ruby loved good food, her grandchildren, IU basketball, enjoyed attending church at West Second Street Church of Christ where she was a long-time member, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.  She worked as a homemaker, and later a cook for the MCCSC School System along with numerous sororities and fraternities at Indiana University.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and wife Donna, Donald and wife Mae of Jasonville, IN and Daniel and wife Linda of Bloomington, IN; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandson all who brought great joy to her.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville, IN. Visitation was at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010. Funeral Services followed at 3 p.m. with Bro. Alan Borders officiating. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery, Midland, IN.

Contributions were made in lieu of flowers to the Bloomington Hospital Hospice fund of Bloomington, IN.
