JAMES W. “JIM” RUSSELL, 78, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 6:43 a.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Regional Hospital Terre Haute, IN surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 4, 1932 in Coalmont, IN to John Edward Russell and Maude Elsie (Morse) Russell.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years and 9 months, Daphne “Daffy” (Phillips) Russell of Jasonville, IN whom he married on December 31, 1955; daughters & son-in-law, Monica Lynn “Tutti” Russell, Jasonville, Janell & Tracy Hamilton of Jasonville; son & daughter-in-law, James E. “Bud” & Janelle Russell of Jasonville; grandchildren, Jessica (Russell) & Matthew Davis, Kate Russell, Jeremy & Mindy Hamilton, Curtis Hamilton; “grandcats and a “granddog”, Lacey; sister, Edith Lillian (Russell) Blake of Linton; brothers, Gene Glenwood Russell of Jasonville, Hubert Wayne Russell of New Castle, IN; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Willis Russell, Olive Love, Creola Morris, Earl Ray Russell, Carl E. Russell, Oscar Russell, Frank Russell.

Jim had worked at Stran Steel of Terre Haute and Merom Power Plant (Hoosier Energy). He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of the Jasonville American Legion Post #172, Clay City VFW Post #6606. Jim led a very full and wonderful life. From 1951-1955 he was in the Navy-during the Korean War Jim was a boilmaker on the USS Kersarge and USS Boxer. Jim was a wonderful man who loved and was loved by his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He is on his way to Glory!

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 1 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Messmer and Pastor Tracy Hamilton officiating.

Interment was at Peavey Cemetery in Howesville, IN with Military Graveside Rites.

In lieu of flowers contributions were made to The Veterans Home; 3851 N. River RD; West Lafayette, IN 47906-3762 envelopes are available at the funeral home.
