VIVIAN IRENE SAMM, 97, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011 in Regional Hospital Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born April 21, 1914 in Clay County, IN to Thomas Griffith and Venza (Crist) Griffith.

Vivian Irene married Walter Curtis Samm on February 11, 1932 and he passed away April 20, 1974.

Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Ruth & Charles Yates of Jasonville, IN; son & daughter-in-law, Everett & Wanda Samm of Farmersburg, IN; 15-grandchildren; 26-great-grandchildren; 14-great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Griffith of California; daughter-in-law, Shirley Samm of Elkhart, IN; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Thomas Edward Samm, Walter Wayne Samm and Charles Lee Samm; sister, May Bedwell; brothers, Riley “Bunk” Griffith, Harve Griffith, Charles Griffith, Thomas Griffith, James Griffith, Isaac Griffith and Ernie Griffith.

She worked as a cook for Coalmont & Shakamak Schools for 15 years and was the oldest living member of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church. Irene loved to cook for her family and everyone else. She also loved to sing. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation was scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Jeffers and Pastor David Smith officiating.

Interment was at Friendly Grove Cemetery in Lewis, IN.
