SHIRLEY ANN (EDELMAN) BICKEL, 80, of Freedom, IN, passed away at 4:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at her home.

She was born July 31, 1945 in Jasonville, IN to Arley Edelman and Iris Edelman-Boes.

Shirley married Larry Bickel on September 27, 1964.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Bickel; daughter, Lori Howell; granddaughter, Allyssa Howell several nieces and nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Iris Greene and Lucy Bickel; cousin, James Mahan; niece, Diane Mitchell, and 3 nephews.

Shirley graduated from Jasonville High School in the class of 1963 at the age of 17. She had already known Larry since she was 5yrs old and they married after graduation in 1964. She worked many jobs over the years including VC Fertilizer in Jasonville. She took night classes for secretarial work and went to work at George Croft Furniture. She and Larry moved to Columbus, IN in 1973. Shirley worked with Larry keeping the books for Bickel Construction for 40+ years. After retiring in 2015, they returned to Freedom. Shirley was an avid homemaker as well and could be found baking bread and desserts from scratch once or twice a week. Keeping people on their toes, she was a card shark during Euchre nights with the card club. She was also known to be down at Miller’s Bowling in Columbus, IN striking with the Ladies League. Shirley had an active mind whether she was doing difficult crossword puzzles or solving the next John Grisham murder while reading. She was devoted to making special times for her family be it a birthday, Thanksgiving or Christmas. She is loved and remembered for her special touch she brought to each moment of her life shared with those she loved.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Lebanon Cemetery, Midland, IN.

The family welcomes flowers that can go to the cemetery.
