JOE FREEMAN SMITH, 79, of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 10:01 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015 in his residence.

He was born January 8, 1936 in Freeman Greene Hospital, Linton, IN to Lome Freeman Smith and Agnes Grace (Frazier) Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Doris A. (Ridgley) Smith of Jasonville, IN whom he married on November 15, 1969; daughter, Nita A. Smith and fiancé, Kevin Roberts of Terre Haute, IN; sons, Matthew F. Smith and fiancée, Tricia Flores of Jasonville, IN and Val Joe Smith and wife, Toni of Linton, IN; grandchildren, Dorina G. Springer, Kimberyn Jo Springer, Braxton Smith, Elizabeth Green, Alison  Miley and Adriana Flores; mother-in-law, Wilda Ridgley of Jasonville, IN; sisters-in-law, Virginia & Charles Dickerson of Winfield, AL and Rita & Ronnie Richards of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, Wallace & Josephine Ridgley of Jasonville, IN; several nieces and nephews; cousins, Dr. P.F. Humphrey and John Humphrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe was a Midland High School Graduate, Class of 1954. He had worked at Peabody Coal Company as a Pit Foreman and as a Custodian at Shakamak High School. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, Past Master of Jasonville Masonic Lodge #530 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, IN and O.E.S. Columbia Chapter of Linton.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation was scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with Masonic Memorial Services at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Cox Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Rotman officiating.

Interment was at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN.
