Steven “Steve” Douglas Schunk, 65, of Dayton, OH passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at his home.
He was born July 12th, 1959 in Richmond, IN the youngest of two sons to Roy and June (Sizemore) Schunk. As a child, his family moved to Jasonville, IN, where he attended Shakamak High School graduating in 1977 and made lifelong friends. Classmates fondly remember him as a bit of a rebel-sporting long hair and a love for motorcycles.
In 1981, Steve graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Geology. That same year, he welcomed his first son, Isaac. Over the year, his family grew with the additions of Benjamin, Josiah, Brian, and Jacob; creating a lively and boisterous household.
Throughout his life, Steve wore many titles: Dad, Brother, Son, Friend, and Colleague. His professional journey began in the 1980’s with Dowell Oil, followed by 32 years at Indiana University, and, in his later years, worked at Amazon.
In his free time, Steven enjoyed home remodeling, camping, exploring new technology, and relaxing with his dogs—especially Sandy, Nemo, and Ginger, who he adored. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed music, Lost in Space, talking to people, and educating. He attended Fearless Church in Centerville, OH.
Steve is survived by his wife Ramona Schunk of Dayton, OH; children, Isaac Schunk (Bethany), Benjamin Schunk (Jamie), Josiah Schunk (Annelise), Brian Goshert (Heather), and Jacob Schunk (Sydney); step children, Elizabeth Long ( Jeremy) and Emily Gwaltney; grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Levi, Caroline, Cassidy, Makinsey, Kyndal, Ava, Benjamin, Eleanor, James, Jacob, and Johnny; step grand daughters, Jordyn and Aubree Long; his brother, Gary Schunk (Betty); his nieces, and his beloved dog Ginger.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8th, 2025 at the Funeral Home. Services are immediately following at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Fulk officiating.
Interment will be at Peavey Cemetery in Jasonville, IN.
