MELVIN RAY STRAHLA, 75, of Linton, Indiana passed away at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, IN.
He was born March 30, 1936 in Brazil, IN to Herschel Strahla and Sesna (Kent) Strahla.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. (Hubbell) Strahla of Linton, IN whom he married on March 4, 1961; brother, Paul Strahla of Rockwell, TX; uncle, Sherman Strahla & Ruth of Greenwood, IN; mother-in-law, Iva Hubbell of Jasonville, IN; brother-in-law, John Hubbell & Sue of Jasonville, IN; nieces and nephews, Donna Lynn Bown, Mary Alice Wells, Sherry McQueary & Kent, Jon Ray Hubbell & Regina Axe, Michael Hubbell & Stacey; several great nieces & nephews; one great-great-nephew; several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Melvin was a member of the Coalmont High School Class of 1954. He was retired from the Peabody Coal Company-Hawthorn Mine. He was a member of the UMWA Local #1410 and the Linton Elks Lodge #866. He served in the US Army National Guard.
Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and Noon until service time Sunday. Funeral Services were 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Kemp officiating.
Interment was at the Peavey Cemetery in Howesville, IN.
