MAUDIE ELIZABETH SHIDLER STRAIT, 98, of Jasonville, IN passed away at 8:20 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 in Millers Merry Manor in Sullivan, IN.

She was born April 9, 1915 in Lewis, IN to Clyde and Irene (Fitzgerald) Shidler.

Maudie married John Luther Strait on October 12, 1935 and he passed away on August 13, 1986.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Irene Huff of Sullivan, IN; grandsons, Todd A. & Robin Huff of Jasonville, IN and John M. Huff of Sullivan, IN; great-grandchildren, Allison Paris, Stephanie Huff, Jacob Huff and Madison Huff; sisters & brothers-in-law, Gladys Wright of Paris, IL, Ann & Willard Stevens of Jasonville, IN and Edith Duzan of Jasonville, IN; foster sister, Margie French of Hymera, IN; brother, Alfred Earl Shidler of Fort Worth, TX; sister in-law, Joyce Strait of Worthington, IN; many cherished cousins, 17 nieces, 19 nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews; many loyal neighbors, friends, church family, and compassionate care givers at Miller’s Merry Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Olive Woods, Faye Sinders, Esther West & Ruth Snellenberger; brothers, Glen Shidler & Gilbert Shidler; sister-in-law, Maxine Wilkes; brothers-in-law, Clarence Snellenberger, Norman Duzan, Joe Woods, Elmer Sinders and Estel West.

Maudie attended Kaiser School, Graduated from Coalmont High School Class of 1933. She worked for several groceries including Houser Bros., George Myers Market and Managed Raper’s Grocery & Dry Goods, she also worked at Formfit. Maudie was a member of Jasonville Assembly of God Church. She loved gardening, flowers, birds, handcrafts and most of all family and friends.

Arrangements were entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana with Visitation scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastors Sam Bush, Dale Wise & David Cox officiating.

Interment was at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN.

Contributions were made in memory of Maudie to any local Food Pantry or Jasonville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
