JUDITH ANN KETCHEM TAYLOR, 64, a resident of Jasonville, Indiana passed away at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Judith suffered complications from a courageous and valiant battle against non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Judith was born March 14, 1947 in Sullivan, Indiana. Her parents were Thomas Kendall Ketchem and Gail Virginia Hastings Ketchem. Judith married Airman Rick Taylor on October 1, 1966 at Bunker Hill Air Force Base.
Survivors include her husband, Rick of Jasonville; sisters, Jane and husband Ronald Bennett of Martinsville, IL, and Jo Coats of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, of 55 years, William E. Enstrom of Jasonville; nephew, William Thomas and wife Nancy Enstrom of Jasonville; niece, Cindy Bennett of Springfield, KY; niece, Melissa Enstrom of Hanover, IN; great niece, Erika Enstrom of Jasonville; great nephews, Alexander Enstrom of Jasonville and Ian Enstrom of Hanover; step great nephew, Miles Joslin of Hanover; stepmother, Lois Reese of Jasonville; stepbrother, Jim Hadley of Jasonville; brothers-in-law, Manny Ray and wife Paula Taylor of Indianapolis; Gene and wife Rita Taylor of Safford, AZ.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Janice Enstrom; a niece, Susan Bennett; a nephew, Jan Enstrom; and a brother-in-law, Jack Coats.
Judy attended Shakamak High School, and graduated with the Class of 1965. Later, she served several years on the Jasonville High School-Shakamak High School Alumni Association and held various offices. She enjoyed being parade coordinator and working with Student Services. She devoted many hours to purchasing and distributing clothing and supplies to students through this program.
Judith also enjoyed working at The Jasonville Leader. She enjoyed writing, word processing and proofreading with the editor.
Judith greatly enjoyed gardening and had several annual and perennial flower beds around her home. She found much enjoyment in nature and in visiting Shakamak State Park. She loved animals and cared for many pets that were very special to her throughout her life. She was an admirer of John Wayne and his movies and had visited his birthplace in Winterset, IA, and the Old Tucson movie site in AZ. She was patriotic and loved her country. Like many people today, Judith enjoyed learning and experiencing the world through her Apple computer. She enjoyed reading and was very much a student of current events. She regularly contributed to charities through organizations such as Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse. She was a very expressive story teller who loved to share with family and friends, and she enjoyed many genres of music. Judith was an intelligent, private and honest lady.
Visitation was 5-9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m until service time Monday. Funeral Services were held at the Cox Funeral Home; Jasonville, IN at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 with Rev. Larry Goodman officiating.
Interment was at the K of P Cemetery in Hymera, IN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions were made to the JHS-SHS Alumni Association-attention: Student Services, American Cancer Society, Operation Blessing International, or Samaritan’s Purse.
