William “Bill” Eugene Enstrom, 88, a resident of Jasonville, Indiana passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020 in Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus of Terre Haute. Bill suffered complications from dementia and a short battle with cancer.

Bill was born May 11, 1931 in Hymera, Indiana and was the fourth of nine children born to Harry “Butch” Enstrom, Sr. and Cealia (Bockman) Enstrom. A 1949 graduate of Hymera High School, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 and was assigned to the maintenance squadron of Marine Air Group 33 in Korea. Bill married the love of his life Janice Kay Ketchem on December 24, 1955 and remained devoted to her for over fifty years. They had two sons who were the light of his life. He enjoyed being a father, grandfather, and uncle immensely.

Bill retired from the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute where he worked for 26 years. He was a member of the NRA and the American Legion, and a past member of B.P.O. Elks and VFW.

Bill greatly enjoyed being on the go, working with his hands, and helping others get a job done. He also loved spending time gardening, visiting with friends and family, genealogy, and eating lots of ice cream. He found enjoyment in bird dogs, bird hunting, dancing, card games, watching football, the outdoors, and was an avid fan of Larry Bird. He was extremely patriotic and loved his country. He was always a proud Marine and embodied the motto “Semper Fidelis.”

Bill had a way with all children and loved their company. He was intuitive and attentive to the needs of others. He had a quick-wit, a contagious laugh, and a dangerous sense of humor. His compassion for people and animals ran deep and he remained a gentleman to women until the very end. He was an intelligent man and expressive storyteller who loved to share his life and stories with family and friends.
